Email issues…

March 10, 2010

I have just been made aware that the contact form has not been working properly.  Apparently after people click submit the page refreshes and a message appears at the bottom of the screen stating that the email could not be sent.  I have people working on resolving this issue but until we can get the contact form working properly please email me directly at krista@loefflerphotography.com.

For anyone who has emailed me recently using the contact page on this site and have not received a reply:  Please send me a direct email and I will get in touch with you promptly!!!  I feel terrible that anyone may have gotten the impression that I simply ignored their email.  I would never do that to any of you!  I look forward to hearing from you soon!

A great new artist

February 16, 2010

Normally I stick to blogging about photography but occasionally I hear about something so exciting that I just can’t help but share…  I just found out that a childhood friend of mine recently put out an album of her own music and is on her first national tour promoting her album “Truce”.  Amber has an incredibly powerful voice and a fresh, folksy sound that is both unique and pleasant.  This may be Amber Darland’s first full-length album but I guarantee you that it will not be her last!  She is definitely an artist to watch.  Check out her website at amberdarland.com or become her fan on Facebook!

005

These are images from a session I took last month but they illustrate what I would like to touch on today very nicely.  I wanted to show how a few little tricks can transform a snapshot into a moment captured.  I’m going to start out by showing you my final image (above) and then I will show you the original capture straight out of the camera.

This image of a new Dad touching his baby girl’s tiny hand has been described by several people as “sweet” or “precious”, which is exactly the emotion I was hoping for when I took this photograph.  The way the image is cropped directs the viewer’s eye to the baby’s hand and really emphasizes how tiny it is in relation to her Daddy’s fingers.  I also chose to make this timeless image black and white so that the entire focus is on the subject and the viewer does not get distracted by any bright colors the image may have.  The image below is of the original capture.

Not quite the same feeling when looking at this one eh?  It is a cute picture of Miss Presley but it does not really give off the same kind of warm, fuzzy feeling that the first image did.  During this session we were taking a few minutes off to give Miss Presley a little break and give me a moment to adjust my settings.  When I saw her Dad trying to comfort her by holding her hand I quickly snapped the image and took the time to crop it the way I wanted it to be later while editing.  Bottom line is do your best to remember the value of close ups while taking your photographs and if you have to take a quick shot (like I did here) in order to capture the moment just remember to take the time later to crop it down to enhance the image’s emotion.  I do not think that my original photo invokes nearly the same kind of feeling as the final product.  Creative photography is not just clicking pretty images, it is about creating emotion.

Lakewood PD Memorial Service

December 9, 2009

For those of you who do not know, I recently became the team photographer for Hero to Hero, an organization dedicated to honoring our Troops, Police, and Fire Fighters. Yesterday I had the incredible honor of accompanying the Pierce County Pipes and Drums to photograph the memorial service for the fallen Lakewood Police Officers.  It was an indescribable experience to see close to 20,000 law enforcement (including almost 1,000 Canadian Mounties), fire fighters, family members, as well as the countless civilians gathering to honor these people.  The outpouring of emotion and support was amazing.  As a proud daughter of a cop, sister of a cop, sister-in-law to 3 cops, wife of a cop, and friend to many more this memorial service hit very close to home for me.  My thoughts and prayers go out to each of the families.  God bless our Law Enforcement Officers, we love and support you all.  Thank you for all that you do for our communities!
